Windows Explorer problem, perhaps related to SP2?

Hi all,

I have a strange problem on Win2K.

Currently, whilst exploring my file system in Explorer many of the small + icons that allow you to expand and contract folder trees disappear, on folders that have subfolders. I cannot close the branch from the right click menu "Collapse" either.

Closing and reopening the Explorer window does not change this, the same directories have the same problem.

So I am basically stuck with a huge open file system, because I cant close unwanted directory trees.

Its been annoying me for a while, but getting worse lately. Someone suggested it started happening around the time I installed SP2, and I think they might be right. I just this night reinstalled 2K from my streamlined 2K+SP2 CD and the problem has persisted from the last installation.

Anyone seen this? Any solutions?

Thanks
Joshua

Do you have IE6 beta installed? I had exactly the same problems like you with IE6.
If not then try to install the SP2 separately: install Win2K original, then apply the SP2.
Be also sure to have up-to-date video-drivers.

Good luck!

cool,

Yeah I do have IE6 installed. I didnt want to, but I am using the same mail store for 2K and XP and weird things were happening when one was IE5.5 and one was IE6.

I think I will try to uninstall IE6 - or cant you do that? :)

Hi,

Reverted back to IE5.5 and so far so good...have to wait till I next boot into XP though - to see whether my mail accounts have been deleted again!

Thanks for the help,
Joshua
