Windows Explorer Not Updating Folder Tree

I just did a fresh install of windows 2000. Now whenever a new folder is created, it is not shown in the left hand side tree view of windows explorer. The folder appears in the right hand side list view only. Doing a refresh does nothing.

I remember having this problem before and I remember solving it with a registry tweak. Unfortunately I can't find that tweak anymore. The only tweak I can find is the one in which you change the UpdateMode value at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Update. I change the value from 1 to 0 but the problem remains.

Any suggestions?

I have the almost the same problem except when a folder is deleted, it still remains in the left pane. Also, when I change a CD or DVD, it still has the old label in Explorer until...

a. I open My Computer from the Desktop and refresh there.

or

b. I have to restart my computer.

It seems like refreshing in Explorer is almost totally useless.
