windows explorer keeps 'flickering' !!!

when i am browsing my files, often lately, i'll be in a folder, and the window will seem like it is in some sort of constant activity and it will flicker every other second. this interrupts whatever action i am performing. if i am renaming a file, it will deselect the file, for instance. today i noticed in the status bar, it reads 'searching for files...' each second that it flickers. this gets very frustrating, it doesnt do it all the time though. i have scanned for viruses, and used norton utilities to detect all windows problems, also have scanned with spybot and ad-aware, everything is clean...not sure what to try next 🙁

Anything show up in event viewer?

Mine does that sometimes when it is trying to concentrate on doing something i told/asked/suggested/hinted it do

there is a whole bunch of errors from when i booted a couple hours ago, but not anything since.

those are:

Did you run decombobulator?

Go into services [admin tools/services] and set the dcom to start automatically

dcom is set to start autommatically already, thanks though.

i would guess my flicker doesnt have to do with the dcom error, but what do i know 😛

i wouldn't have thought so either - but one never knows.

Could you try turning off indexing for the drive

OH yes, and make sure that all the drives are running under DMA/UDMA [hardware devices/ide channels]

i had checked the DMA, and they were ok there.

i turned indexing to disabled. (which was set to manual anyways)
it seemed to help but only after i rebooted. so im not sure thats what did the trick.
as i said, it doesnt always do this, so i hope its actually fixed and not just deceiving me for the moment.

If it comes back, try booting in safe mode - tell us if it happens then.
