Well i tried to do a Factory Restore because i have not done 1 in over 2 years. Well i did one and now my computer wont turn on. It tries to boot up and then i get a black screen titled "Windows Error Recovery" it then proceeds to give me 2 options.

1. Launch Startup Repair (Recommended)
Which ends up basically doing nothing and telling me to unplug all extra hardware before starting my comp again. Or i can follow it to the screen that has buncha different restore options and a command screen option. Well i do another Factory Restore from there because its the only thing that i can do, but it sadly doesnt help anything and im back where i started.

Option 2 is

2.Start Windows Normally
Which will just repeat it and bring me back to this screen.

I have tried EVERYTHING. From running in Safemode to running diagnostics and anything else you can think off. I have clicked every single option in F12 selection screen and i have had 0 luck. I have no idea what to do about this.

Anyone know anything about it?? I can take some pictures of the screens if you guys think that will help.

Alright well surprisingly enough i got my computer to work. I went on Setup and changed my driver settings from "Raid On" to "Raid Autodetect/ATA". My computer turned on and everything seems to be working fine BUT i cant seem get an internet connection. I dont know the username/password so i really cant experiment too much until my bro wakes up and tells me what they are. Does anyone know what changing the Driver settings did?? Im not sure about this but when i go to Device Manager i feel like some of the devices have gone missing. Atleast compared to this computer who has 19 different things on Device Manager, my other comp that i just fixed has 15. Im not sure if thats do to the change in Raid or if it just always had 15. One of the ones that i dont see on it though is "Network Adapters".. not sure if that could be the reason im not getting an internet connection.

try reinstalling the motherboard/chipset drivers .. If you have them on a disk that came with the system, fine.. . if not.. look up the system or motherboard model, and download them from another computer ...

It sounds like you did a factory restore from the Dell OEM Windows install disk. If so then you will need to load all of the drivers from the Dell driver disk or download from Dell support like mlc said.

If you still have the original hard drive with the recovery partition you can do a recovery to factory default and it will reload the original image that was on the system from the factory. That image has all of the drivers installed but you will still want to check on Dell support and see if the drivers need to be updated with a newer version.

Here is the manual for the XPS 420. It explains how to restore with the recovery partition and explains the RAID options.
