Windows Error 1304

I was installing Kaspersky AV 7.0 onto an older laptop (about 5 years old, running XP SP3) and I keep getting an Error 1304: failure to access a file, and it identifies something in the Windows/System32/drivers folder. I think it was a "ks1.sys" file.

So, I went into the System32 folder to make sure I had permissions to write (I was the administrator), but noticed there is no ks1.sys file. I tried copying the install files to the HDD, and install from there, but it hung again at the same point.

I imagine it is targeting something that still shows up in the registry but does not exist anymore in the operating files. Not sure how to proceed at this point, but if anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate it.

OBTW, I installed to my Vista 32 OS on my desktop with no issues. Error 1304 issues are not very well annotated on any websites I could find, including the MS support. It is hard to tell what is actually causing the issue.

I probably need to do an OS re-install at some point anyway, that might do it, but I won't have time to do that for the next couple of weeks.

Thanks.
