You know that window that pops up when you click on a link to start a download.
The window that pops up and asks you what you want to do.
well, I unchecked the box that asks me to select what I want to do,
and now, the when I click the link, or file, it just starts downloading without asking me what to do.
Can anyone tell me where to go, so I can reselect that box, so the download will ask me first what to do
before it starts.

It's the box with; Always Ask before opening this type of file, after the box.
Please, help me to find this box and get it reselected.

Thanks

I'm assuming you're on IE...

Did you try ...

Tools-->Internet Options-->Advanced-->Restore Defaults? That might work...

Yea, tried that, still not work.
IE still automatically downloads file, then the window pops open with the extract to question.
Want to be able to select open or save before that window opens up.

Start/Ctrl Panel/Folder Options/File Types/[Select the type of file you are downloading]/Advanced/ ?Check the box ?Confirm open after download?

Thanks, but still don't work. I clicked everything in there, I think.
But, when I left click on a file to download, you usually get a box to pop open asking
you to either save or open. I don't get that box anymore, the file just automatically downloads
and opens up on its own.
Want to get that box back, so I can select what I want.
I made the mistake of unchecking the box that was in that window, which gave me the option to select.
I think the box I unchecked said, "Always ask before opening this type of file", I want that back.

any ideas, help

Thanks

They are Zipped up files. They then need to be extracted, and I get that window when the file is downloaded. But never get the window asking me what I want to do first. It just starts downloading.
I need to recheck that box that asks me what I want to do first.
Just can't find it.

If you're using the built in XP zip handler it will be the "zip" extension that you need to look for in

Start/Ctrl Panel/Folder Options/File Types/[Select the type of file you are downloading]/Advanced/ ?Check the box ?Confirm open after download?

...if you're using a third party zip compression program it will be a zip form of that, for instance PowerArchiver would be "PowerArchiver Zip File" file type in the righthand column.

Click on the "Extensions" bar at the top to sort them alphabetically and go to "ZIP" in the lefthand column.
