Windows doesnt want to shut down

So i got a new comp installed everything, works find, then i installed cool and quiet and then i turn off my computer now... it does the whole windows is shutting down thing and right at the end where my comp should turn off it just freezes. and i have to hit the power button....
so i uninstalled cool and quiet and it worked fine again....
so days pass then i try to set up a home network and it required me to restart windows and it did the problem again...

anyone experience this? how do i fix, would like to avoid reformating... im a busy student dont have too much time

Failure to shut down is most often a driver problem. are all of your drivers compatable with SP2?

hmmm it could be that some of my drivers needed sp2, and when i installed them i didnt have it... so i had to like abort them, install sp2, and then install over

also my bios probably needs to be updated, but i dont have a floppy drive so i dont know how?

Have your XP CD ready. Actually, put it in your cdrom drive (the same drive you installed XP from). When the XP Splash screen appears on your screen, exit out of it.

Now, click the start button. Click Run. In the run box, type (without quotes):

"sfc /scannow"

Note there is a space between sfc and /scannow

Click OK.

A small rectangular box will come up on the screen --the System File Checker. It will replace any system files that have been overwritten by third party applications.

If it keeps asking you to put the CD in and you keep clicking retry, it means the CD drive you're using was not the original install path. In that event, you just have to keep clicking Retry until it's done.

When the SFC utility is done, it won't tell you anything. It will just exit off the desktop.

Reboot after it's done.

Note: The SFC utility DOES take into account any hotfixes and/or Service Pack upgrades.
So don't worry that it may be installing pre-service pack files. It won't be. It knows where to look on your hard drive for the Service Pack and Hotfix files.

Now, the only thing I've ever had to do after running the SFC utility is to reinstall my videocard drivers (Nvidia Nforce/Geforce drivers) because the Nvidia opengl files have been overwritten by SFC. So, keep that in mind. Otherwise, you should be all set.
