windows doesn't know how to open .indd files - help

so i'm trying to tell windows to open .indd files with indesign cs2, but i'm unable to.

i right click on an .indd file, click "open with..." then "choose program." indesign does not appear under "recommended programs" or "other programs" so i click on "browse."

i naviage to program files > adobe > adobe indesign cs2 and double-click indesign.exe.

problem is, it takes me right back to the previous recommended and other programs window, with indesign nowhere in sight.

i've tried this several times with no success. how can i get windows to open .indd files with indesign?

p.s. i know i can just go to indesign and hit ctrl+o, but i'd like to be able to open .indd files from windows explorer. thanks in advance.

If you go into the Control Panel, and then open up Folder Options, then click on the file types tab, you should be able to scroll down to find your extension, from there you can try and change what the file type opens with.

Let me know if you have any success with it or not so we can try something else.

astray, thank you. it works!

i had one question about icons. i'm trying to get the indesign icon to go with the file type, but it still displays that generic file icon.

i can't find the .ico file. i'm also trying to change the icon for firefox. where are .ico files stored? i read online that they can be stored in EXE, DLL, OCX, CPL files.

i've tried selecting indesign.exe for the icon but it doesn't work; i still get a generic page icon next to all idd files.

how can i get the icon to work?

thanks.
