Windows doesn't boot? I'm stumped.

I was shutting down my system one day and it hung, so I rebooted. Now after I get the WinXP screen, the screen just flickers off, and stays there.

Booting into last good config doesn't work, but safe mode does. I can get into safe mode, all the hardware is properly configured with drivers.

Any ideas?

How about an in-place upgrade aka a repair-install, followed by reinstall of any patches/service packs, mobo drivers and video drivers? That should preserve your documents, settings and programs while refreshing your Windows install.

It will take your patching level back down to whatever your WinXP CD has inherently onboard, so if you rely on Windows Firewall being on, then you'd want to manually enable it if your CD has only got SP1 or no SP at all.

Play with the ram, move it around, take a stick out, etc. and see if that helps...

I had the similar problem. But in my case after a few restarts windows finally loaded properly. I coped with the problem by installing new drivers for my video card (Ati Radeon 9600)

I probably should've checked this thread again. I just ended up formatting because my documents and things were on a seperate partition. :)
