i have installed a usb port on my computer, which has been recognized, but every time i try to use the scanner, it says cable is not connected?

i have reinstalled the drivers for the scanner several times.
any suggestions??? :disgust:

If someone were to try and help you, they would want to know a few things.

What system, what OS, what add-in usb card, oh yeah, what scanner!

I have had same prob. w/ printer/scanner USB. The USB cable was bad in my case. You have another cord you can try w/ it? That is what I would do if you tried messing w/ drivers etc. Good luck.

ok! my system is win98. (4.10.1998)
computer is MiTAC ACTM298 6x86MX with an S3 Trio3D graphics card

my USB is a Belkin USB motherboard cable which had to be physically plugged into the motherboard and placed in an empty slot on the back of my computer. Belkin is a generic brand that I bought from Office Depot for $12. I don't know if this is what you call "the USB card" or not but I don't have any cards that look like my graphics card.

the scanner is a MUSTEK SCANMAGIC 1200UB PLUS, I believe this is a generic Cannon.
did I leave anything out? hope not! please advise😀

also... I cannot try another cable because the cable to the scanner is attached to the scanner and does not come out!

Try some other usb device on the port (mouse, game controller, printer, etc.)

Borrow one if you have to, to see if the port is actually working.

Also, download and use latest drivers from mustek.com.

Report back.

I tried my printer's USB port and of course I uninstalled the drivers first, then plugged it in, and the New Hardware wizard came up and did everything right until I went to install the drivers. It says the computer cannot communicate with the printer and to check my plug ins and my inf. file.

So now I'm really confused. That doesn't make any sense to me.
HELP!!!!!!!😕

OH YEAH! I have already downloaded the mustek drivers and saved them on disk. it 's still saying i'm not plugged in. and how do I check my inf. file? I don't know what i'm looking for.
