Windows disabled DMA on my Startup disk. I want to re-enable it.

For some reason windows XP disabled DMA for my 17.2gig Maxtor 7200 disk that I use for the system drive. This has happened before and all I could find out then was to reinstall windows. I tried updating the VIA 4in1 drivers and mess with the bios and DMA settings in the device manager but to no avail.

Does anyone know if there is an entry in the registry that forces PIO mode only? I just recently set up windows again and I don't want to go through it.

Thanks a lot!

right click on the "my computer" icon.
select properties
select hardware tab
click on device manager

goto ide ata/atapi controllers
examine the properties for your primary and secondary ide controllers

under advanced settings it will say what mode they are in and you can change them there.
