A computer won't start because the Window's directory can't be read. It can boot from a floppy and access all other directories but not Window's directory. I recently changed from 512 down to 256 MB ram but no other changes were made. If it's a registry issue, how can I fix it since I can't open the Windows directory? Any idea what the problem could be and how would you try to fix it? Thanks!

I just ran scandisk on the drive and it found that there are errors with the file allocation table (it stopped at that test). Do you know if it's possible to fix FAT errors? Or should I reinstall the operating system and just accept the loss of some stuff in the Window's directory?

FAT is a very fragile filesystem, most likely any errors will just create FILE*.CHK files that you would have to sort through and put back where they belong (provided you could figure out the original filename) which would take much longer than reloading.
