Windows Dilemma

Hey all, I need to do a fresh install of windows xp pro in the worst kind of way. Way to many BSOD and crashes but my disk somehow got scrathced and it wont boot.

I have a copy of 2000 pro that I could install, do you guys think that will suffice since Vista isnt to far in the future or should I plunk down the money for another copy of XP Pro?

tried that, they said that there is a 3-6 week waiting period to get the case reviewed, you need to send them the disk, tag off box (almost positive I dont have box anymore), and register recite.

I cant really delay the 3-6 weeks and then for them to get around to ship it, so its either a new copy of xp or use the 2000pro that I have and wait on vista.

You don't have any friends with XP discs? The license key is what's important, not the disc itself. Either way you're waiting on Vista so if you can't find another XP disc it's up to you to decide if buying another XP license is worth it to you when Vista is due 1st quarter of next year.

I never had any trouble with 2000 pro just not sure if its secure enough to use these days.

All my friends either have store bought PC's and the couple I do know who do build there own have OEM and I have Retail version and I dont think any of them use Pro either.

So do you think using that instead of buying a new copy of XP Pro would be a good option with Vista right around the corner?

Why not just install Vista Pre RC1 |(5536) It seems quite stable and a huge improvement over Beta 2. It's free and can last until you have other options available. It is still downloadable if you search enough. If you know someone who has it the Code wil install 10 copies. It is reported to install without any code but I have not tried it. I think it is very nice. I already like it better than XP. YMMV
