Windows Dilemma! /MBR

Windows Dilemma! /MBR

I just recently exchanged my hard drive from a 6GB to a 20 GB
and attempted to transfer all my partitions from the old to the new.
I have five partitions, 'c' to 'g' on both drives.

All was mostly successful except for 'd' which is my Win partition plus
other programs. It seems that partition was locked and would not transfer.
I was using Win 98 se, but just prior to exchanging drives, my son
said lets install WIN 2000 Pro, which we did. Well, it worked ok on the
old drive, but I couldn't do my Dos COBOL programming which is an
important use for my home computer. Well, I had a backup of my old
'd' which had WIN 98 SE, so I 'restored' and then got into all kinds of trouble.
Now, nothing works!!!!!! I tried reinstalling Win 2000 Pro, but it would never
finish. Now, I deleted everything in my c:\root except autoexec, config,\IO
and MSDOS and all the WIN and WINNT directories on 'd'.
I'm not certain as to what to do next. I have a WIN 95 CD and win 98 CDs
and am thinking of starting over with them. However, I would like to preserve my DESKTOP
and STARTMEMU which I have saved.
When I boot now, I get the message, can't find NTP or NPR or something like that,
so I think WIN 2000 is still there somewhere.
Should I do a FDISK /MBR???? I don't want to lose my other stuff on c,d,e,f,g.
What will the /MBR do??

Please advise. I am leaving work today at 2PM EDT and wouldn't be back until Monday.
I want to get back on line at home during the interim but will have no Internet service
until I get reinstalled.

Thanks everyone for your consideration of this problem.
