Windows Desktop Won't Load-Just Blue Background

Just what it says; just when the non-welcome screen logon window is supposed to appear, a blue background appears with my non-responsive mouse pointer (wireless mouse) in the middle. Is it possible to run system restore (or something like that) not from the desktop? I don't want to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition and lose all my files, help!

I just reinstalled windows, and all of my programs and files are still on the hard drive, but windows does not recognize them. Is there a way to get windows to recognize them?

A lot of the programs are probably going to have to be reinstalled.

The data should be accessable; though you may have to reset privilages on the folders/files in order to have access to them.

It rebuilds the registry, so programs that require registry keys won't function any longer, but at least your data is accessible. Programs are easy to reinstall, data is not 🙂

Malak is right. Unless u format, u shouldn't lose ur data. for example, i have 2 partitions. All my data is on D:\, and my windows instaltion is
on C:\. I like to experiment with new stuff, so occasionaly i need to reinstall windows. using my approach, i can get my pc back to the state it was in in 90 minutes. But as for ur prob, did u think that maybe upon new install, windows doesn't have drivers for a wireless mouse? this
is just a thought as i use a regular mouse and have no experience in the subject, however, try and use a regualr mouse to see if that solves the problem.

The wireless mouse worked fine in the installation, and now that I have reinstalled windows, it workes fine without the driver. As for the other drivers, is there a way for windows to automatically detect them, or do they have to be reinstalled as well? (Video, sound, uguru, mobo etc.)

When you get to the blue screen, hit CTRL+ALT+DELETE to get to the Task Manager. Once in the Task Manager, goto File --> New Task (Run...) and then type in "explorer.exe" (without the quotes) and hit Enter. See if it loads up then. I know I've had a problem like that in the past.
