it's ok...though the options suck on it. Took me a while to figure out how to tell it to index my secondary drive.

Is it possible to search non indexed drives. Especially network drives. I tried installing the desktop search and I can't do any searching. I would like to get it work. I don't want to index anything as I don't want to waste the resources, and especially I don't want to wait to index a new remote folder or drive before I can search it.

Thanks

You're basically talking about the standard Windows search which scans the drive as you search. (no its no possible to search with this tool without indexing)

Really though your way is impractical, which is why no search engines work the way you are suggesting. Set up the client, go for lunch or work on something else while it index's for a few hours, and enjoy the real time search capabilities of these new algorithms.

While I can index the local drives one thing I cannot do is index network drives, especially if I don't have access to them until I map them.
Yes network drives are slow, but if I need to find some file or folder I have no choice by to do a basic old fashion search.
I would like windows to stop searching through slow files like zip, cab, and most importantly Internet favorites, which take by far the longest, just a basic quick file search. I remember searching though a 100 GB drive in 10-20 seconds when no slow search features were used back in windows 98 or 2000.
