On a WD 120gb drive, I every once in a while in WinXP get this message titled Windows - Delayed Write Failed:
"Windows was unable to save all the data for the file I:\$Mft. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere."
Clicking on the popup balloon does not bring up anything else, and it can just be ignored and it'll go away.
If I go to Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management, the drive has dissappeared. I can still see it in every new Explorer window I open but clicking on it only brings up a blank drive. Nothing brings the drive back. I can't even seem to do a "rescan for new drives" as it just sits there scannnign for drives forever. I can reboot the system and it'll pick up the drive again.
For some reason, some part of windows still think it's there and attempts to write temp files to the drive? Or so I assume.
Anyways, I wonder if it's a power problem. I've never had this problem until recently and the system is still configured the same as always. I get no other crashes or odd behavior from the system except for this.
Configuration:
P4 2.2 Gig
512MB DDR
(2) WD 120GB 7200 rpm (8mb special ed)
(3) WD 120 GB 5400 rpm
(1) Maxtor 80GB 5400 rpm
(1) Pioneer 16x DVD
(1) Liteon 32x burner
(2) IDE Raid cards
(1) Geforce 4 TI 4400
(1) Intel 100 pro management nic
(1) SB Live oem
I wonder if I strained my system too much? I doubt it as I can play UT 2003 on my system for hours and the system is still stable. I also have dual monitor enabled and the system is running 24/7 all the time without any crashes. I even burned a few disks at 32x and I still don't seem to have power problems as nero verifies the disks to be error free.
The i:/ drive just dissappears whenever it wants to! 🙁
