I have Norton AV 2010 running in realtime and just got a notice in the action centre little flag about Windows Defender wanting to scan my computer. I thought I had the latter deactivated but maybe it got reactivated when I installed AvantQuest SystemSuite 10 (in custom mode, without its AV and firewall components). At any rate, I just deactivated Defender again but the thread below puzzles me.

Used to be a bad idea to have two such programs in realtime as they could conflict. Anyone here leave Defender on with their other dedicated AV without problems?

Thanks in advance. Your opinions are valued.

BTW, I have also the Windows firewall turned off as I use the Comodo firewall.

I don't see why it would be a problem to have defender and another program. I believe i've done it before.

The Symantec software will deal with the spyware threats that Defender would find and much more. Let Symantec keep it disabled, no need for two real-time antispyware applications running at once.
