Windows crashing to the desktop in all 3D games

Hey all! I've been slamming my head against a wall for the past couple weeks and decided to ask for some help before I get a concussion. My problem (as stated in title ) is every 3D game I play, after a random amount of time, the game crashes to the desktop with no warning. I have looked at the output provided by some and the most common error seems to be "C0000005 ACCESS_VIOLATION". It is follow by text similar to "getLogicalAddress failed for 00000000", which is followed buy a ton of other information. The crash sometimes brings up the Windows crash report when certain games crash and after sending one in, and it stated the problem was with a device driver. I know this information is somewhat general, but I've never encountered anything quite like this and I'm sure what to look for. My system is as follows:

AMD Athlon 2500+ w/ 333 FSB (Barton)
Epox 8RDA+ Mobo (nForce2 chipset)
1 GB of Crucial 333 FSB
PNY GeForce4 4400
Sound Blaster Live X-Gamer

I'm not overclocking anything (right now), so that isn't a problem. The drivers for the GeForce are currently beta 44.65, but I was having the same problem with the "official" 44.03 drivers and even the older 43.45 and the 41.09 drivers. For the nForce chipset I'm using the v2.03 drivers.

Something else while I'm here. The motherboard has an APIC Mode in the BIOS. According to the motherboard manual, this is an "Intel chip that provides symmetric multiprocessing(SMP) for it's Pentium systems. Why is there? The board is an AMD mobo after all. Any insight?

Thank you for the help ahead of time!

I haven't used that test yet. I'll download it and see what it says. I have already sent the motherboard back and had it replaced, so I know it's not that (unless I got 2 bad ones in a row). The memory was working fine on my old K7 Master before this so I'm reasonably sure that's not the problem, but I've done no specific testing on it. I'll see what the test says. Thanks!

There have been numerous reports of compatability issues between 512mb sticks of Crucial 2700DDR and various NF2 boards, particularly in DC-DDR mode so be sure you have the latest bios. Also, if you have them in dual channel mode try them in slots 1&2 in SC-DDR to see if that helps then try 1 stick at a time if needed and if it doesn't stabilize you may be faced with exchanging for different ram.

Just finished running one pass on Memtest86 and it brought up quite a few errors. They specifically appeared on test 3 thru 6, with the majority of them showing up on test 5 (36 errors for that test alone). I'm not sure exactly what all that means, but I probably shouldn't be getting that many errors should I?

I've been moving the sticks around through out this process, and it doesn't seem to help. Both sticks will crash the same, so I guess they may both be bad. Thanks for the info DAPUNISHER, I think i'll get in touch with Crucial and ask them what's up. 🙂

Just talked to crucial and after telling them the results of Memtest86, they hooked me up with an RMA and have 2 new sticks of RAM on the way. It's good to that some companies still have good customer support. Hopefully this fixes the problem.

Not sure if I'm the only one who's had this problem, but whenever I try to install any detonatros newer than 41.09 on my nforce 1 board, I get stuttering sound at windows boot.
