Windows crashes with 16 GB RAM, Ubuntu runs fine

Newegg had a sale and I bought 16 GB of DDR3 memory for my laptop, a Lenovo Edge 14. Windows wouldn't boot after installing it, the pre-install environment won't even run, it locks up and I have to power off the laptop.

I tried Windows 7, Windows 8, and Server 2012 - all x64 flavors. All do similar things.

So I decided to try Ubuntu since I just download 12.04 LTS. Using the live CD right now to post this and it works perfectly. Why can't Windows deal with the memory?

You may want to check with the vendor of your computer/motherboard to see if this is a known issue.

Seconded hhhd1.

Odds are if you did anything to push the usage up on Ubuntu you would start seeing segfaults or abends.
