Just recently, when i start up windows xp in safe or normal mode I have received "unmountable boot volume" error. The support area of microsoft says to repairs with the windows start up cd. I do that, it starts to 'inspect the computers hardware configuations....' and then restarts without booting or repairing. Any reasons why the start-up disc would do this?

Possible bad drive or possible firmware corruption. If the drive does not ID in BIOS, maybe a dead board or maybe something else.
