Windows can't access disks in floppy drive...

Hey all,

I've had this problem for awhile now, and it's starting to drive me nuts!
Windows XP recognizes my floppy drive, but evertime I put a disk in and try to access it, it can't be found. I keep getting "Please insert disk into drive A:", even though there's a disk in there.

At first, I thought I had a faulty floppy drive, so I put in a new one...but I still have the same problem.
There are no lights on, and all my wires are inserted properly, so I can't understand what the problem is.
And I really need to update my BIOS!

Any insights?

check in the BIOS that the floppy is enabled and that it is 3.5inch/1.44MB

Also, as digger suggests, could be a faulty cable.
have you checked several diskettes?
were they formatted by a windows OS?
