A couple of years ago, I upgraded my desktop from a Athlon 64 x2 based system to i7 based system. I kept the same case and power supply. A few months later, I had to sell the system for financial reasons. Since then, the Athlon system has been sitting in storage until now. I got a new case and power supply and threw everything in. When I went to install Windows 7, which is what was on it was I threw it into storage, I got the following message:
"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."
After reading this, I searched the internet for a solution. I have tried everything to fix this with no success. Here is a list of what I have done so far.
- Changed the CMOS battery. I did notice that the time was set to 2012.
- Changed the IDE cable twice.
- Changed the hard drive jumper from cable select to master.
In BIOS, I:
- Made sure the hard drive was set to IDE Channel 0 Master and my DVD drive was set to IDE Channel 1 Master.
- Disabled Floppy Drive
- Disabled the SATA 1 and 2 Channels in the IDE Function Setup via Integrated Peripherals
- Made sure the IDE Channels 0 and 1 were Enabled and each Master and Slave were set to Auto in the IDE Function Setup.
- Made sure RAID was disabled in the Integrated Peripherals.
- Disabled the IDE HDD Block Mode.
- There is no mention of ACHI anywhere in BIOS, which is what a lot of boards were calling for with enabling the IDE drive.
- Downloaded the manual for the motherboard and searched for answers there.
Here are my specs:
- Foxconn Winfast NF4UK8AA 8EKRS Motherboard - Phoenix WorkstationBIOS
- AMD Athlon 64 x2 4400 2.2ghz
- Corsair XMS DDR2 4gb
- EVGA Geforce 210 512mb Video Card
- Seagate Barracuda 7200 80gb
- Pioneer DVD-RW
What else could it be? What should I do next? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
