Hello,
I recently migrated to a new RAID system; a promise fastrack tx2000 controller and 2 WD 1000JB drives.
Everything went smoothly, and my system was running well. I was very impressed with the performance. Take the game 1942 for those familiar with the title; during the multiplayer games the maps would load in so fast that I would be in the game and driving a tank or flying a plane one or two spawn cycles before anyone else. Thats how fast thopse hard drives worked. i did a test in sisoft sandra and garnered a 49000, it showed that two 15000k SCSI only rated at 46500, so i was running great.
Last week I purchased a new SONY 24" monitor, I figured before i installed the bad boy I would install the latest detonator drivers to increase performance. So I installed the 40.74's shut the computer down and then plugged in my new monitor.
Unfortunetly when the computer started up the system totally locked at the promise BIOS screen (after detecting the drives) I did a bit of detective work and after tearing the computer apart and jiggling with cables, messing with BIOS settings, and about eevrything else. (I had thought that I might have bumped something loose moving my comp about, I had unplugged sevaral USB devices and moved them to the hub on the back of the sony monitor. The computer booted, but was not working properly. I guess the 40.xx nvidia drivers did not get along with the 30.xx det drivers.
Anyway i figured i was about due for a fresh install anyway, so i assumed my best fix would be to start from scratch.
After deleting the raid array and defining a new one, i fdisked and reformatted. (i also installed an audigy 2 along the way)
Anyway my computer is up and working now, but everything seems slow, it takes a good lone time for windows to boot, (even though my sandra score remains the same) and games such as SOF locks up, although that game locks up for a lot of people...
This is driving me quite mad, because everything was configured properly before that driver/monitor install and shouldn't have any bearing on anything especially after a reinstall.
Hopefully someone has some suggestions, I am going to go home and set the mem latency to lowest settings and see if that helps (I am running at SPD right now which should be compatible anyway)
Thanks for any suggestions.
Josh
