Windows boot up

When I try and boot from the cd to install windows, it says that its inspecting my hardware, and then it goes blank. It does not proceed to the next screen, but just stays there. Ive tried loading optimal settings in the bios, but nothing. If anyone has any ideas that would be awsome thanks

What is the version of your windows OS and what is the spec. of your machine?

windows xp pro
AMD xp 2600+
512 ddr ram
dvd rom
80gb seagate
20 gb maxtor

not sure why it doesnt go any further. I tried several things and nothing worked. The BIOS is acting a little funny, which could be the case. WOuld the BIOS do something like that?

What do you mean by the bios is acting funny?

Could also be scratched CD, bad optical drive, etc...

You can make boot floppies from the windows CD, and try loading setup that way. It takes 5 discs

My XP boot floppy set is 6 disks.

And I agree, " The BIOS is acting a little funny" really says nothing.

try a slipstreamed ver of the OS install disk...

when i got my dimension 9200... i tried to do a fresh install off of a geunine XP disk... it would freeze and BSOD right before the "EULA" screen...

So i read on some forums somehere and they suggested a slipstreamed install disk.... i laughed but since that was my last straw fortunately it was true...

it being a scratched disk is a ver good possibility, try uses it in another machine. or if another machine is handy try troubleshooting ur dvd rom drive by tring it in another machine

I suppose mine is also 6 discs, haven't dug them out in a while. Thank god.

I have had that probelm in many pc's.
The only thing that has helped me is unplugging anything not needed to boot. This includes hard drives, usb stuff(memory card readers, front panel jacks, etc). I have had bad OS disks too, that cause the same problem. Start by removing unneccesary hardware. The blank screen is your OS installer erroring out by one of the two forementioned causes.
