Hello, i am looking for a little insight on a problem that i have just recently gotten, lucky me. I was playing a game, and in the middle of said game it kind of froze, which doesn't happen too much, so i just restarted my computer.

Next thing i know my computer is hanging on start up, and now takes upwards of 15 minutes to start to be "useful" again. After said long boot up, it runs absolutely fine.

I am not sure if the gaming caused something to happen, but also i was defragmenting my computer and stopped it in the middle while i was gaming, so i think that there could also be a possibility there.

I've ran chkdsk, and it's fixed any errors. I haven't run any anti viral programs yet, but i'm going to do it after this message.

I think it is a HDD problem, whenever i go to defrag my computer now it takes literally 5 minutes for my drives to even show up, but after that it works fine.

My computer specs are as follows:

AMD 64 3000+
1gb ram
6800 GT
Raptor 70gb SATA HDD
Some MSI mobo that hasn't given me any problems.

As you see it's not cutting edge, but it was running fine before i manually shut the computer down when it froze during the game. I am not even sure now that it froze, but maybe it was hanging up looking for another file.

Any help would be appreciate thank you!

If it starts normally in Safe Mode usually means it is a software problem, not hardware. One check for a indication of the problem.

What does the event log say? Filled with disk errors?

Sorry for the delay, just doing stuff at home, it does not start normally in safe mode either, and it was just a sudden occurance not a gradual problem.

Sadly i will be busy with housework most of the day, but i will undoubtedly check on later, i plan to swap out my RAM to see if anything is wrong with it, and if that isn't the case, i recently installed Kaspersky internet security, and that may also have caused the problem.

I ran bootvis, and i have no idea what anything meant, all that i really got out of it was that it took over 8 minutes to get to the desktop, not 20, i guess i'm more impatient than i thought.

When i ran Chkdsk something strange happened, it was running fine but then on the 4th action that it was taking it stopped for like five minutes before climbing to 1% complete, so i'm really confused, whenever something happens that has to access the HDD it hangs but then runs fine. I even put in a CD once and it took 5 minutes for the game to pop up.

Additionally, when the computer starts up it flies through post, and windows loads up, and then it changes to a completely black screen for a few minutes, then the background for my desktop will appear after the black screen, but the start bar does not pop up, nor do any icons--though they appear a few minutes later, and when everything looks like it should be ready, if i click on Firefox it hangs for a few minutes, but once that is over my computer runs like it is brand new.....

Sorry if that wasn't helpful, just trying to expound on my previous thoughts. Thanks again.

Run MPSReports and send the resulting machinename.cab file to me. (See my .sig.) That will give us a look at your PC, event logs, etc.

sounds like your HDD is about to go. i had an old 80gig maxtor that was dieing and it gave me similar symptoms althought it was still slow after bootup cause it was in PIO mode.

try using a program like SpeedFan to read the SMART data of the drive and see what it says.
