Windows boot up problem: the volumn that was removed had open files on it...........

I have an A7V/win98se comp that recently gives me some trouble.

Sometimes(about 1/2 chance) when booting into win98 , the comp went into blue screen and have this message:

************************************
Windows
The Volumn that was removed had open files on it. Next time please check first to see if the volumn can really be removed.
Press any key to continue

My harddisk(IBM 15G) is installed on onboard Promise ATA100 primary master.
The onboard IDE( VIA) only has an Sony CD-RW installed on primary master.

This system was running for the last one month. the problem occured only after I installed Norton AV2000, but I have removed this program.

It has not been add/change hardware since first install of win98.

I'v had the exact same problem, when I removed my slave drive from the ATA100 cable and put it on the ATA/66 cable. Did you add or remove another HD by chance. For me even after continuing it gives me all sorts of BSOD's and finally I have to reboot. Also what bios are you using.

I forgot to say that once I put the slave back in the ATA100 it was fine. weird.

i have the exact same problem...but for me it's like a 1 in 10 chance of getting that message

never installed norton on it though

I started happening when after I did a scan disk and deleted some "unused
files"

hhhmmm weird, for me if I take my slave drive off the ata100 it happens all the time if I put it back never.
