...never seen it before on my home computer, but I suspect my new(er) Dell was set that way at the factory. I double-click an .exe that I zipped at work to send hom via. email and my laptop XP operating system says no way, Jose~...restricted by windows.

Where do I change this setting, guys?

No, I received it just fine (I zipped it to make sure the .exe came in without being blocked) and I saved the file to the desktop...double-click the zip on the desktop...pulls up the window that shows me the two files in the zip...click extract....boom. I get an error messages that says "Windows has blocked the file [insert name here] from being extracted."

I guess I could try WinAce or WinRAR or something, but just wondering how to turn this blocking .exe from being extracted feature off. :)

After googling it (keywords: "windows has blocked access file" ) a lot of people are having the same problem. No resolution yet?

Open Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types,
.EXE files should not be on that list ... also check .zip and
make sure it is set to Open with your preferred unzip program
such as Winzip or Winrar .. whichever you prefer

Nope...googled it and did some research before I posted, but found no solution.

I tried what Bruce said (thanks, Bruce), but it seemed set correctly...no .exe in the list and Winzip files were set to open with Winzip.

I can unzip files, just not executables in a Winzip; therefore, I thought the problem might be in a Winzip setting...checked everywhere. It is windows that is controlling WinZip and not allowing it to unpack files with a .exe...very strange. I emailed the zip to my home computer and it unzips like a champ...some setting on the laptop operating system is not allowing WinZip to do it on this computer...might just give up and put it on CD and go from there, but it bugs me not being able to figure this out ;)

Got it...and feel stupid, but never seen this before. :)

I've checked the "properties" of a trillion files and never seen the open to "unblock" a particular extension. I check the WinZip help files some mroe and find this:

Archive Blocked
The specified operation could not be performed because the archive was blocked by Windows Security. This can occur for archive files that were downloaded using Internet Explorer or arrived as attachments in Outlook Express. To perform the operation, you will first need to unblock the archive file.

Caution: you should be careful when unblocking an archive. Be certain that you trust the source of this archive. Do not install anything contained in an archive that was attached to an unexpected or suspicious e-mail message. See Security Hints and Tips for additional information.

Here are step by step instructions for unblocking an archive.

Note: If the archive is already open in WinZip, close WinZip.

If the file is an attachment in an email message, save the attachment to a folder of your choice (example: My Documents).
Open the folder that contains the archive using Windows Explorer.
Locate the archive in Explorer's file listing and right click on the archive's name in the list.
A context menu will appear, click Properties.
On the tab labeled "General", click Unblock
Click OK
Open the archive in WinZip and perform the desired operation

So I assume Winzip put this in there? Strange, as it didn't on the upstairs computer...will have to compare versions after coffee. :)

So the simply solution was to right click the file, properties, unblock button. :) wtf
