nope.

i had a computer last week that was stuck in an infinite loop.

windows 10 was trying to fix itself.

for some reason it didn't know that windows 10 blanked the drive.

I know that the feature has been in place since at least Windows Vista (Maybe XP) and I'm pretty sure that I can't recall a single instance of it actually repairing anything.

Unless you count the network diagnostic tool of which I'm pretty sure just does an ipconfig /release & /renew and calls it a day.

It's an delusional Check Engine light that thinks it's helpful.



I especially love the state where the only button available is Cancel, and all it does is pop up a window that says that canceling is not available.

I actually tried it once, and it worked. It was like a last ditch resort before redoing my pc. Ive tried it in the past with no luck, I was running windows 7, and tried it before on xp, but it did work, once.

1) Click "Don't check Windows Update for drivers."
2) Wait a long time anyway.
3) Still end up having to find drivers manually.

I want to say it's worked at least a few times in the last ~15 years (was in XP). I can't remember the exact scenarios though. I've got a big family and basically responsible for almost anything electronic. I'm sure I've tried it enough times that I just seem to recall it working.

Unlesss you have startup problems. I wouldn't even want to use it. May fux up my computer more.

I think everyone should do weekly or better nightly backups.

It's about as useful as Windows 'help'. Yahoo Answers is more helpful than Windows help.

Its been hit or miss for me as well, i usually try it as one last step before having to wipe the machine.

Sometimes there are a lot of ways to fix it using simple methods involving the command line within the repair tools. I'll do automatic repair and if that fails, I try to pinpoint the symptoms or what led up to the crash, and try to root out what I should try within the recovery console. I've had good success creating a full recovery in there so that I don't need to resort to a fresh install.
