This is kind of neat:

It actually came pre-installed on a Toshiba laptop I picked up at work. I thought it was just some included garbage, but it actually turns out that it's a pretty neat product. It's basically an app store for Windows, or more accurately, "smartphone apps for your desktop". The idea is to bring all of the fun, simple mobile apps from your iPhone/Android/etc. onto the desktop landscape (with or without a touchscreen).

This is cool because a lot of computers are now coming standard with touchscreens, especially higher-end laptops & All-in-Ones. I've struggled with the idea of AIO computers partially because I don't see the point of having a jumbo touchscreen if there aren't very many good programs to take advantage of it (fingerpainting gets a bit old after a day or two), but the concept of putting mobile apps on your desktop is a great application of this! You can browse the apps on their website as well: (you can also install apps from the website, or just do a search from the Pokki program itself)

The store is free, and optionally adds its own Start Menu replacement if you're running Windows 8. The initial download & installation was somewhat slow, and loading apps off the website seems a bit slow, but loading apps from with Pokki itself is relatively quick. It has stuff like Angry Birds, Cut the Rope, etc. as well as mini-programs for Gmail, Rdio, and so on. It's kind of a more friendly way to load programs, which is also useful for people who are not as computer-literate and always end up downloading the garbage from the ads on free software websites rather than the program itself - this is a safer route to have them download apps from.

Anyway, thought it was cool & wanted to pass it along. Finally, AIO touchscreens are useful for something! :awe:
