If I built a new PC with Win7 Home, and do the anytime upgrade to Pro, can I then do a fresh install using a Pro install disc and just use the key I got when I upgraded (I assume you get a new key)?

The Anytime Upgrade DVD requires that you have the proper key for the upgrade, IOW, you paid for it. Once that is done and you have the Win 7 Pro key, you can do a clean install of it anytime you want.

Well I'll be doing the upgrade through Microsoft's site via the Windows Update, but still, from what you are saying I should be gold. I just hate upgrades. I want to do the upgrade then do a fresh install from a Pro disc I already have. Thanks.

Well that didn't work. I installed Win7 Home, upgraded to Pro through MS's site, then did clean install with a Pro disc. When it came to entering the key I got an error message saying the key was for upgrade versions, not clean installs.

I'm going to call MS and see what they can do.

What wass the point of the clean install after a clean install? If you upgraded to Pro, from Home, the key should have worked.

MS can fix it for you.

I don't trust upgrades, and besides if I ever need to re-install I just want to be able to do clean install from the Pro disc, not install Home, then go back to MS site and re-upgrade. I called MS adn they did refund the $90 for the Pro upgrade.
