Windows activation concerns for dual boot HP

I have a new HP workstation with Win7 pro installed. It came with a Win8 install disk.

I re-installed Win7 from the system restore CD onto a new SSD and it auto activated. I would like to play with Win8 and thinking of installing it on another drive as a dual boot. I have heard that newer machines have an embedded windows product id in their bios and wondered if it would allow for a second activation. The windows 8 did not activate under a Virtual Machine. I have full "downgrade" rights per my documentation.
 
Should be doable. One OS license allows as many installs as you want, as long as it's all on the same hardware (one computer).
