Windows acting funny

My system and system idle processes are acting weird. They're taking up at least a combined 50% or more of my resources and causing my computer to lag. After a while I cannot open the task manager when I press ctrl - alt - dlt and there seems to be constant harddrive activity even when I'm doing nothing. I just formatted yesterday and DL-ed all the service packs. I have no idea what's causing it to do this or how to stop it. Anything help is much appreciated thanks.

Hm, it seemed to be that screwy EQII trial file I dled. Damn I uinstalled service pack 2 for that thing too.
