Windows 98SE "Illegal Operation" Epidemic

Ok, here is the scenario. I upgraded from a Celeron 400mhz to a P3 550mhz(non-coppermine) on an ASUS P3B-F and now I have a chronic "Illegal Operation Error" problem whenever I try to open or use anything. I tried formatting C: and performing a clean install of 98SE with no luck. I am out of ideas, does anybody have any insight here.
