I haven't been able to get updates from the Windows update website for some time with my Windows 98 PC (Windows XP updates work fine). Did Microsoft turn off updates for Windwos 98?

I wouldn't think so... but it IS a pretty outdated OS anymore.

Windows 98 has been EOL'd (End of Life). MS will no longer provide any updates for it.

July 11, 2006 will bring a close to Extended Support for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me as part of the Microsoft Lifecycle Policy. Microsoft will retire public and technical support, including security updates, by this date.

so you should be able to get critical updates until July 11, 2006

you may want to consider switching to XP after that

On the bright side, Microsoft still supports Windows 2000 Professional due to the vast amount of bussiness still using that OS.

Windows 2000 is still a solid OS. It has all the core functionality of Windows XP, without all of the bloat. It's still my favorite by far.

True, kinda. They stopped releasing updates and stopped phone support, but you can still do Windows Updates. I work as a tech and I get computers with Win 98 on them weekly and I always do updates on them.

Edit: Basically what FoBoT said.

Thats what I run, so I felt no need to go out and buy XP. Win2k works fine for me.

Win98 still does everything I want my other computer to do...

Why would I pay $80 or so to switch it over to XP??
