Why does someone want me to install Windows 98 SE onto an old laptop? I don't know, but they did. Every time I install, I never get into booting into Windows. I get an error telling me that vmm32.vxd is missing or unable to load. It doesn't matter how many times I try to format and reinstall. It's the same thing. I tried replacing the .vxd from other 98 machines. I tried extracting it from the CD. Could it be the CD I am using? It's a copied CD, and I think it's OEM, but that shouldn't matter. Any ideas?

This seems VERY familiar to me. I've got several win98se boxes here at the office, and remember having a heck of a time with that thing. I tried copy those files etc. Never got me anywhere.

Well, it was quite a while ago, but dangit I just keep thinking it had to do with a NIC. If you go into BIOS, trying disableing the NIC and see if it'll boot.
