Windows 98 SE questions...

I tried the OS board but nobody will reply.

I recently purchased 3 copies of Windows 98 SE (OEM version) from 3 different sellers on ebay. All three claim that the software is new and never registered. The first two copies arrived shrinkwrapped and appeared to have never been opened. On the shrinkwrap was a COA sticker which could be peeled off and put on a computer case. The face of the CD had a neat hologram on it.

The third copy I received looked like it was wrapped in saran wrap and did not have a COA sticker (there is however a COA on the manual which came with it). The CD has no hologram on the face of it but does have the "genuine/microsoft" hologram on the inside rim.

After reviewing info on Microsoft's website, it appears that the original Windows 98 SE CD's did not have the hologram on the face of the CD but the newer copies do have it. Apparently, when Microsoft comes out with a new version of there OS (Windows ME) they do not stop producing older versions. Is this correct?

Is there any difference in the actual software between the newer hologrammed CD's and the older non-hologrammed CD's?

Is there a way to tell if the product key has ever been registered before without actually registering it myself?

Thanks for your replies.

Well, it doesn't look like you're doing much better in here as far as replies go :p

Nope, it's all the same software. As long as they're all win98SE, that is. The CDKeys from one version may not work with the other, but as long as you don't get them mixed up, you'll be fine
