I visited my girlfriend's parents this weekend and her mother is a librarian for a local elementary school. She took me to their computer lab and we fixed a few issues, but there was one I just couldn?t solve.
The 'server' is running Windows 98. Now when ever a user right click on the desktop the right click menu is active for half a second and then goes away. I installed tweak UI to adjust the menu speed, but it didn't help. Also if the user accesses the main menu bar on ANY application (notepad, accelerated reader, anything) the exact same thing happens. It shows up for a quarter of a second if lucky and then disappears. Not even pressing alt + F, or alt + anykey will do anything. The same behavior is exhibited as the right click.
This behavior was first exhibited after the 'server' machine was updated with new accelerated reader tests. (IMHO this shouldn?t have caused the problem).
I haven't used 98 in such a long time so I am really out of ideas. I'm sure somehow the menu timing function of windows got &*)&*('ed or there is a virus that exhibits similar patterns. The computer is connected to a lan but does not have internet access.
All Windows Guru?s your help is greatly appreciated!
