[Windows 98] - Path to files on the Desktop?

A friend asked me to recover some files from an old computer. I can't boot into Windows 98, so I just booted into DOS. The files that I'm looking for were on the Desktop, but they don't seem to be in the path C:\Windows\Desktop when I look. Where else should I search?

That's exactly where I would have looked, too. Just a thought - can you simply take the hard drive out and put it into another machine as a slave drive? Then you could roam freely through the directories using the OS of the other machine. I even think that it would be quicker in the long run.

If they have enabled win98 profiles, it would be in a different location than normal.

Does the desktop folder have the hidden attribute?

As was mentioned, sticking the drive in another system is going to be the most convenient.
