Windows 98 keeps on freezing for like five seconds and then starting again...

Try setting your swap file's min and max settings to the same thing. Just a guess.

My dad's computer has started doing this. He also has Win98.

I had this problem with netgear LAN cards in Windows 98. It was just an IRQ thing, when I finally remembered to move it to a different slot, the problem went away.

Make sure DMA is enabled for your hard drive (in Device Manager)

Run Ad aware and spybot search and destroy.

Sometimes things like gator and xupitor and the jsnoclose can fuxor things up and make systems lag.
