Hello all, this is my fist attempt to build my own computer and everything has gone rather smoothly untill now. I was attempting to install windows 98 SE last night on my new system after i did the usual partitioning of the hd and all that and it went ok untill it started checking for plug and play (more like plug and PRAY!) devices and it hung up, no biggie i just restarted it like microsoft says using the power button, then it went back through did its thing and when it got to the part where it was setting up my start menu and all that it started giving me Regsvr32 and Rundll32 illegal operations and when it got to the finalizing settings part it was giving me illegal op after another (bout 20 in total, all regsvr32 andrundll32) untill it finished then not letting boot up windows normally (safe mode only). Anyway i am at my whits ends trying to figure this thing out and have never had any kind of problems like this with win 98se and wanted to see what kind of answers i could get. As usual Microsoft is absolutly no help with their heads held high up each others asses. Thanks in advance guys. BTY hers my system......

HI
Remove all add on cards such as the NIC and or modem and sound card.
With only the video card and ram on the mother board try to install the o/s again.
If the o/s install is ok, install the rest of the cards ONE at a time using the latest drivers you have.

Well I have NO cards on the mobo except the video and the ram is seated ok but if it wasnt would the system still boot to bios? anyway like i said my mobo is a epox with the led display and it says "FF" which from what i understand means all is working ok. I have been trying some more here lately and it still doesnt work.

ok here is a lil update, now instead of all the illegal operations i get a blue screen with a VMM error which i am assuming is a virtual memory error teling me that I have a bad stick of RAM since windows is not installed at this point so what i am planning on doing is trying to exchange the ram for another and if that doesnt work then exchanging the hard drive as that is my next step. Does this sound right to everyone?
