Windows 98 DDR Ram Problems?

anyone know what settings i need to edit to get a stick of 256 and a stick of 512 ddr ram to work on my computer with windows 98 installed? i have Asus A7v333 motherboard..

It's not DDR it's having 768 MB of RAM. This is probably covered in an AT FAQ, and in the operating system forum (search) and if not there will be articles at microsoft.com.

You just need to adjust memory settings, but I don't have a link to the KB article.

Windows is neither aware of, or cares about the type of RAM you are running.

If, from your post you are implying, you are running a total of 768MB of RAM, there is an issue with Windows 9x for RAM amounts greater than 512MB. For a resolution to this, please read the AnandTech FAQ: What is the maximum amount of RAM for Windows?

thanks very much both of you.. now it loads without a problem after editing my system.ini

my one questions is... will i be able to notice an upgrade from 256 to 768? thanks

W98 isn't very memory-hungry (runs great in 64-128 MB) so not for most things. Some few games (BF1942, SimCity 4, EverQuest POPower) are RAM-hungry as are a very few work apps like PhotoShop.
