:( I'm having a problem booting up my PC.

My machine powers up ok, but whilst loading Windows 98 (1st Edition) it suddendly reboots itself. I have tried starting it using a System Boot Disk, but it just hangs when Verifying DMI Pool Data.

FYI : I have recently added a second HDD, but I have updated my BIOS accordingly.

Any ideas?

System Spec: Pentium II 350 ; 6.4Gb HDD (Fujitsu) and 40Gb HDD (Maxtor) - currently disconnected due to other installation problems.

Was the machine working okay before you updated the BIOS?

If so, perhaps its a bad BIOS flash which is causing your problems - you could either try to reflash the BIOS again or you could try to re-instate your old BIOS (you did back it up when you flashed the new BIOS didn't you??)

Yes, it was working before the upgrade, and was working fine until yesterday. I did change the jumpers on the HDD from Master to Slave, and made the new HDD the Master, but I have since changed them back. This is when the problem occurred. I have changed the CMOS and run autodetect the IDE, but still the PC reboots! It's frustrating because I can't boot the PC with a System Disk and thus access Windows 98 & try to reinstall Windows 98.

Take one of the drives off the motherboard, and try booting up with just the OS drive.

:( Problems persist! Does anyone know how to clear the BIOS on the Abit BH6 v1.01? I have tried changing the jumpers as per my Abit manual, but the computer will not even power up doing this. I have detached the new drive, restored the old drive to Master, and now the machine powers up, but the monitor does not receive a signal. I have checked all the connections, but I am sure it is a problem with the BIOS / CMOS. Nb: I did try to reflash the "SS" version bios using a floppy disc, but I received a mesage "Checksum error, defaults loaded" I'm not sure if I backed up the old version of my BIOS - If I did, I can't find the floppy!
