Not sure if bad translation:

We already know quite a bit about Windows 9 (or whatever Microsoft decides to call it). Thanks to the president of Microsoft Indonesia, we might now know another detail about Microsoft’s upcoming OS—its price.

According to Indonesian news site Detik.com (via BGR), Andreas Diantoro, the president of Microsoft Indonesia, confirms that Windows 9 will be a free upgrade for all Windows 8 users.

Interesting what a little competition will do.

I look forward to Windows 9, since Windows 8 was such a screwup.

well since good Windows 7 is 5 yrs old, I assume at some point you get tired of even good stuff - I can see the Windows 9 (7 refresh) would be a good thing for any. As long as it remains as such.

There are many ways how it can succeeded in the world dominated by smartphones, social media and such, without losing what it had before.

I would not say screw up far from it,WinME was a screw up and Win8/8.1 is a very stable OS,layout etc is always a personal preference thing, remember you can't please everyone even with Win9,10 etc ,however I will upgrade like I normally do since I don't find any Windows OS any hassle to use.

Btw OcUK have a thread on it here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18619271&page=8

So for those of us that purchased systems with 8 installed and an embedded key that then upgraded to 8.1 and that will be eligible for 9 as a free upgrade, what will we have to do if we should need to do a fresh install of 9? It's already a nightmare to do a fresh install of 8.1. Here's to hoping there will be a streamlined process.

We will have to wait and see how it pans out, hoping we can download Win9 ISO as backup and use a Win8.1 key,but knowing Microsoft they will make it complicated.

Same here, Hope we can either

1) use the key right way instead of the stupid, use an install key, then change the key and activate it.

2) bypass the key at install and then add key after and activate it

I can tell you exactly why you are wrong. Just press this button:

Again its all personal preference,we can argue about it all day,no OS is perfect and I don't pretend any OS is,just like we all have different preferences etc...

I'll say Linux still has some of the best layouts for operating systems IMHO,but then you can always argue preference thing :) .

The question you should be asking is what will be the big dislike with Win9?.....I guess time will tell.

Soon this history books will deny Windows 8 ever existed.

What scares me is the rumours going around about future being subscription based Windows OS,if that ever happens I will be on Linux for good and it will also kill PC gaming.

It might be an environment like Apple has, where you pay small amounts new versions of OSX (like $20). I wouldn't mind that.

Haha. Nicely put. Very accurate.

I would tend to agree. I installed W8.1 on the new computer upstairs with Classic Shell. It's 'OK' ... meaning I like how fast it is but I don't like all the eye candy they seem to insist on. I'm running W7 on everything else and am very happy with it, although I went kicking and screaming to it from XP... mostly scared of another Win ME. I'm still in therapy because of ME... o_O

The most recent, as well as the next version of OS X was/will be free actually.

However $20, or even $50 would be reasonable in my opinion. Wasn't Windows 8 something like $40 for a while there when it first came out?

they really need to have an easy option for clean install/ISO. don't want to deal with upgrade only from windows store BS. that really annoyed me about 8/8.1

As i mention in another post.Windows 9. will or might be better then 7 and 8.But MS should make a OS that will give you the choice for the way you want it.and like it.

I agree with this 100% give the customer options so that they can make the OS that they want to make it. If you can customize your OS to give it the look and feel of something you're familiar with then I think they will have a hit. I personally love Win 8 but a lot of people hate it for its GUI.

Should take Burger Kings slogan for this and "Have it your way"

Yes and there was an even cheaper upgrade option, you could go from xp or 7 to 8 for $15 dvd that I bought, the download was even cheaper, $10.

It is easier to maintain one product instead of 3.

Something tells me that Microsoft wants to kill off Windows 8 and 8.1 as quickly as they can, rather than have to offer over a decade of tech support for them like they did with Windows XP.

"Hey, it's free" is a good excuse to force people to upgrade quickly.
