fresh install and reformat in game is no issue
just steam menu and overlay lag, everything has a delay
exp:uninstalled library games, roll over em,right click 2 install, freeze, stupid wondows circle, ait for steam to respond, or close program, seems better today
<.<
no hard lockw machine
im like 50/50 here

Check Steam client is updated, also check you have latest drivers, should be no lag.

I would install one Steam game at a time and make sure to verify cache of the game via Steam, also sometimes a good old reboot helps.

Btw if you are using a third party antivirus make sure Windows one is disabled.

alright so im going absolutely nuts trying to get windows 8 x64 on a dvd to do a fresh install. So far i did this:

-formatted PC
-installed windows xp home - 32 bit - so i could get my upgrade without losing my windows 7 key
-bought the upgrade from windows.com - I now have my key

There is no option to download windows 8 x64 to burn to dvd. I can do an upgrade from xp to windows 8, but since im on 32bit now, i can only upgrade to 32 bit. Either way, i wanted to do a completely clean install from a windows 8 oem disk - which i cant do.

In the past, ive had digital river to rely on, but there not there anymore. I went to msdn suscirber downloads, and from looking at that, the iso i need is called: en_windows_8_x64_dvd_915440 and has the sha1 1CE53AD5F60419CF04A715CF3233F247E48BEEC4.

Looked around in different places, but no one seems to have that available to download. Sadly my only option might be to pay 15 dollars for a friggin dvd to be mailed to me. At this point is pay them to allow me to download the iso from them, but paying AND having to wait is really pissing me off.

Maybe worst case scenario, ill reformat, and install windows 7 x64 with no serial, and then see if i can update from there (without losing my windows 7 key). But again, I hate the concept of upgrading, and always feel a clean install is the best way to go.

Any suggestions?

alright so i found my windows 7 x64 dvd, popped that in, and im now attempting to install from there. I know i will be able to do an "upgrade", but after i download windows 8 (which im doing now) where is the option for me to burn to dvd or copy to usb so i can do a fresh install?

EDIT: nvm it was one of the three options after i downloaded windows 8. thats weird because i dont think it was an option when i tried to do that from windows xp.

I should really go make a torrent of this oem disk to save legitamte buyers the same gaddamn headache that i went through. Thanks MS!

What reason is there to upgrade to 8?

Why not? I need another windows license, or would have to switch someone back to xp. Not to mention:

-I like the look of metro
-Will probably use skydrive more once i buy a surface pro - so better integration
-performance improvements (boot times, etc.)
-new features to try out - why not, even if i dont end up using them, I would like to know what they are.
-I like the idea of windows 8, and like the one OS across all devices - so by buying im supporting it.
-its 40 bucks until feb 1 - (newegg has it for 30 after a mir if you feel like waiting)

I have been using the beta on my 2nd pc for a long time, and sometimes i forget that im even using windows 8.

So games I've seen don't install on Windows 8 or make it extremely difficult too. You are always going to run into problems with old games/software when upgrading to a new OS. No use upgrading unless it is a big step forward (which it isn't) or you really need/want some of the new features.
