Windows 8 oddities [Lenovo Twist]

So my friend recently bought a Windows 8 Lenovo Twist, and we're having all sorts of problems figuring out how to use it properly.

1) The biggest thing right now is that we noticed that if we're using flash or some kind of multimedia page (for example Youtube and Pandora) in Chrome, we can't alt-tab out of it or it will stop. So if we try to have Pandora playing in Chrome and then we alt-tab to openoffice, it pauses the music.

2) Another thing we noticed is the strange autorotation behavior. When we first opened it, it would autorotate on its own all the time (it's a transformable tablet). One of the biggest bugs was that when we hit the start button on the laptop, it would go into portrait mode. This stopped mostly with a Lenovo update, but it still is finicky, and sometimes it won't rotate back when we spin the screen.

3) Also it hangs occasionally when we hit the start button.

Any insight into what would be causing these three things?

Honestly, there have been reviews going about saying Lenovo rushed this and the software isn't optimized yet for their machine.

I think the best bet your friend has (if he wants to keep the machine) is to hold off till Lenovo continues to release updates for it.

I've never used win8 and I don't know what a Lenovo Twist is (some sort of dairy or confectionery product would have been my guess) so I am thus highly qualified to answer your questions!

I was going to say though that on your first point, is that within Metro? Because I thought, from reading, that in Metro apps would pause if they weren't foregrounded? Is that not just the way its _supposed_ to work? To save battery life or some such. Someone else here , who actually uses Metro, must know for sure if this is the case or not, surely?

I remember when my brother had issues on Win7 when it first came out and the cause was buggy Lenovo software on his Lenovo.

I would remove all the Lenovo software you don't need also check in Reliability History, its in action centre for any issues listed(little circle with cross click on those).

I believe Lenovo Twist is a tablet/ultrabook hybrid .

We'll keep an eye out for more Lenovo updates, and we'll check for other software.

What is causing the pausing though? It's in Chrome, and I believe this is a Win8 problem/setting. For example, it would be nice to have pandora in Chrome in the background while working on office. That should not be a problem and it works fine in Win7, but in Win8 it pauses everything on Chrome.

As mentioned above, if you are on the Startup screen using a Chrome app, I think it is WAD if it pauses when you alt-tab away from it.

If you are on the traditional Desktop using Chrome, it is something to look into.
