Windows 8 Lock Screen Question

My lock screen will come on but a few mins after that my computer goes to sleep and this process is constantly repeated. Why doesn't my computer go to sleep and stay asleep or why doesn't the lock screen come on and stay on? Why does it go through a cycle of turning the lock screen on and shutting the computer off over and over again?

So far i have tried turning off "Turn off the display" in power settings and only leaving "Put the computer to sleep" on but it still does the same thing. The computer basically doesn't stay in sleep mode with that setting as does that cycle as i explained earlier.

Have you got any software that's stopping your PC from sleeping or waking it up?

As an example - Most VNC software has this ability.

Interesting. I'm not sure but I did do a fresh reinstall on my SSD the other day so I don't have much software to go through. Mostly games and a VPN but I'll check.

check settings for your usb devices in device manager - make sure "allow this device to wake up the computer" is disabled. same for your lan card.

also make sure you don't have any unknown devices in device manager. on several PCs i've built, there's an ACPI component on the motherboard that doesn't auto-install drivers - you may have to get them from the motherboard's support site.

My Samsung S3 phone shows up as unknown device, so that might be it. Thanks! I'll unplug it and see if it solves the problem.
