Windows 8 hardware

So the last time we saw Win8 launch hardware was at CES. The software was in the early beta stages with clunky controls, mainly because it was running the dev preview. And really the main device everyone was excited for was the Lenovo Yoga.

Last night a bunch of hardware was shown to reporters at computex. The main theme with the OS seems to be the hybrid latop/tablet machines:

The Transformer Book is powered by Intel's 3rd generation Core i7, i5, and i3 processors alongside 4GB of RAM, USB 3.0, and Nvidia graphics. Asus is shipping the Transformer Book with a full HD IPS display in 11.6, 13, and 14-inch options.

The W510 is a convertible, full HD touchscreen, IPS display tablet with three different use "modes," including standard tablet style, docked with its detachable keyboard, and rotated 295 degrees from the dock in "presentation mode"

Taichi laptop / tablet hybrid at Computex 2012 in Taipei. Essentially a laptop with a display on both sides of its lid, the Taichi features either dual 13.3-inch or 11.6-inch IPS HD displays, an Ivy Bridge Core i7 processor, 4GB of RAM, SSD storage, two USB 3.0 ports, Micro HDMI, mini DisplayPort, a 5-megapixel rear camera, and "HD" front-facing camera.

11.6-inch S7 is "the world's smallest form factor ultrabook with touch," measuring a scant 12mm thick (the 11.6-inch MacBook Air is 11.8mm, for comparison). Both laptops fold open to 180 degrees, making them easy to lay flat on your conference room table.

There were a couple of tablets too, some were pricey, probably because they ran an intel setup:

W700 is an 11.6-inch Full HD, 10-finger multitouch touchscreen tablet with Dolby Home Theater sound, and it's also got a pretty interesting cradle to go with it. The cradle allows for a tilt of up to 70 degrees while in landscape mode for better viewing angles, and goes to 20 degrees for more convenient touch angles. We also know that the W700 has three USB 3.0 ports.

The Tablet 810 will ship with an 11.6-inch Super IPS+ panel, 8-megapixel rear camera, and Intel Atom processor for the all important traditional desktop apps compatibility in Windows 8.

Tablet 600, a Windows RT device that takes the detachable keyboard form factor made popular by its Transformer Android series. It's got an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core processor, an eight-megapixel camera, 2GB RAM, and a 10.1-inch 1366x768 Super IPS+ panel.

I'm interested in the Transformer Book, but would like to see what other OEMs like HP, Dell, Lenovo and Samsung offer.

I'm definitely interested in an x86 windows 8 tablet to replace my transformer. I'm excited to have a full OS in a tablet package as a companion to my desktop and, with the new smartglass capability, my xbox 360.

I'm mostly interested in the ASUS 600 or 810. The attachabled keyboard looks really good, seems to have worked great on Android. Assuming the price doesn't hurt too bad, I'd like to go 810 for the full on x86 processor, so I can have the desktop experience too.

Seems like the x86 tablets will hit somewhere about $700-$800... which might be worth it for people that want the touch and desktop equally.

The ARM tablet they showed looks like a generic android tablet but runs Windows instead.

I've been playing with W8 on my computer since the release preview and while I definitely don't like it as a desktop OS, it definitely looks like it could be a decent tablet OS. Glad to see these finally coming out.
