My dad recently installed PC Matic on his Win 8 laptop and now we get constant popups asking to backup the files and backup the files online. I put Avast on there for him before he left for Iraq (oil field, not military) but it expired and he was rooked into those PC Matic commercials. Long story short, he is constantly getting online popups while using IE and the desktop popups about backing up and file recovery interrupt anything he is doing. I'm looking at it right now and those backup popups do not look legit - I've never seen Windows create multiple windows when presenting prompts. In less than thirty minutes, his entire desktop was covered with popups asking to backup his files.
I ran Spybot and it came up clean. I'm currently running Malwarebytes and it's showing 68 detected files and it's not even 2% completed. I'm hesitant to run PC Matic since he said the popups never existed until he installed that program.
Could this be a virus or is it just PC Matic trying to backup his files?
Edit: 160+ files detected and 90% of them are related to MySearchDial. A quick search tells me that this needs to go away. I'll try getting rid of the program and rescanning after a restart.
Edit #2: It seems MySearchDial doesn't want to leave the laptop even after an uninstallation and complete quarrantine of the suspected files.
