Windows 8 boot issue

I installed Win 8 fresh today. Install went fine, and was moving around and tryi g stuff out. I installed Avast, but quickly realized it causes issues, as it crashes the system when installing anything, so I uninstalled and that fixed that issue. However, in the process, I realized I can't boot Windows unless the install disk is in the drive. If I take it out and reboot, I get a boot error telling me I need to repair the boot sector. If I put the disc back in, windows boots fine.

Any quick fix?

Hmmm. That didn't work.

The detailed info is:

File:\Boot\BCD
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: the boot configuration data for your PC is missing or contains errors.

Success! I had a little bug in my ear from about a year ago when I first installed my SSD with Win 7. It had issues when installing with the other drives active on the machine. While that prevented me from installing Windows 7, it didn't with Windows 8. But, I noticed that during my first RebuildBCD, that it was finding the partition on drive D: instead of on C.

So, I unplugged all my other hard drives, leaving only the SSD, and rebooted...still a BCD failure...so I went in, rebuilt it again with my SSD as the only drive, and Voila! It works!

So, if anyone is having this problem...unplug other drives and then rebuild the BCD.
